Parking Demand Study

In Central & Western District

HWSPB adopted the ArcGIS desktop system to manage and analyse different types of traffic data. The traffic data are presented in different formats such as numerical data, geographical data and these data are basically captured from site or output from in-house transport model. With the use of this ArcGIS software, these data can be integrated into a centralised database with a single interface. Colleagues can access these shared data for their project as a reference purpose to simplify their workflows to enhance efficiency and environmental friendliness.

The use of geographical information system (GIS) can also facilitate the spatial analysis. Without the GIS, spatial analysis should be conducted manually during data coding process without mentioning the analysis process. The output from in-house transport model as a numerical database can be presented geographically. Engineers can relatively easier to identify the reasonableness of output from transport model and make necessary changes in the transport model. HWSPB integrated the results of in-house strategic transport model (STM) into ArcGIS to present the car journey time from origin to various destination zones in the territory to present the journey time catchment from the site during the site selection process.

The spatial relationship between the locational characteristics and transport models can also be identified in a relatively simpler way. HWSPB adopted GIS technique for the parking demand model including the carpark location, parking level, on-street parking street block location, etc. with the planning data to derive the parking demand model to estimate parking demand under different land-use and various scenarios.
